Health Consumers Queensland

Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) is the peak body representing consumers of the health system, their loved ones and carers in Queensland. By elevating and amplifying the diverse voices and lived experiences of consumers, and by advocating on their behalf, we are building more responsive public and private health services and systems for all Queenslanders.

HCQ is a leader in consumer engagement and participation, supporting consumers and professionals working in the health sector (including researchers) to address emerging challenges faced by the health system and the evolving needs of users of health services.

Consumers play an integral role in influencing improvements to health service delivery, planning and evaluation. HCQ continues to grow and support a network of consumer representatives from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including those:

• from rural, regional and remote communities
• living with complex health and care needs
• from different cultures, faiths and language groups
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• of varying ages, educational and socio-economic backgrounds
• of all genders and sexual orientations.

HCQ recruits consumers to participate in a range of activities including focus groups, meetings, surveys, workshops, forums and to join advisory groups alongside health sector staff, clinicians and researchers, to share lived experience, insights and knowledge to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the delivery of health services in Queensland.
