About Us

WHAT IS GENERAL DENTISTRY?

General dentistry covers a broad range of treatments aimed at preserving and restoring teeth whenever possible, or removing them when there is no other viable option but this is always our last resort. Every treatment provided by Dr Schlen and his team will give you the very best possible chance of enjoying good dental health. Every procedure is specifically designed with your dental needs in mind and we take extensive steps to ensure it will proceed in a smooth and trouble-free manner and with minimal stress. Procedures offered at St Vincent’s Dental Centre include:

  • Fillings
  • Dentures
  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth Extractions
  • TMD and bruxism
  • Sleep dentistry
  • Treatment for fresh breath

Some of these treatments are likely to already be familiar to you, while others such as TMD and bruxism are less well-known. Bruxism is the correct term for clenching and grinding, a relatively common but potentially destructive condition that can often be diagnosed and treated in a way that is minimally invasive. We know some people have anxiety or dental fears and although we will always go out of our way to help, this might not always be sufficient which is why we do offer options for sleep dentistry. Lastly, fresh breath is something everyone would like to have and it is easily achievable with the correct dental care.

How Does Children’s Dentistry Differ from Adult Dentistry?

We all have different dental needs at various ages, and during childhood the focus is largely on preventative dental care. At this stage in life, we try to ensure children grow up with healthy teeth and gums by providing a range of preventative dental care treatments combined with good oral hygiene education.

Our dental team very much enjoys treating children especially as this is the ideal age to instil healthy habits that we hope will last a lifetime. We do everything possible to help anxious children relax and our practice has a range of child oriented videos to help keep them entertained. Our children’s dentistry treatments include:

  • Regular check-ups
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Fissure sealants
  • Oral hygiene education
  • Mouth guards

We will also identify any possible orthodontic problems in children as young as age 6, as often these can be more easily treated with the use of early interceptive orthodontics. Regular check-ups are particularly important and are the perfect opportunity to get a young child used to visiting the dentist.

Everyone here is particularly gentle when treating young children and special needs children and we go out of our way to try to ensure every visit is a pleasant and positive experience. Our friendly dental team are always more than willing to talk to parents or caregivers about dental care so please just ask if you have any questions regarding your child’s oral health.
