Medicare Mental Health

The Medicare Mental Health service acts as an open door to a range of supports helping people who are experiencing anxiety or depression or other forms of mental ill-health. Medicare Mental Health services are safe places to be heard and understood, lifting any confusion and distress and creating a moment to step back and find a way forwards. Staff take the time to listen and understand, then open up options through guidance to get you to where you want to be.

To access the service nationally, simply call 1800 595 212 (8:30am to 5pm weekdays, except public holidays).

There’s three simple steps toward feeling better:

1. Let’s talk. Phone 1800 595 212. A trained mental health professional will take your call and ask you questions. The information you provide will assist us to understand what support may best fit your current needs.
2. Check the level of help needed. If you have felt distressed for some time, or have symptoms that just recently started to impact your life, physical health or relationships, we’ll find the appropriate level of help you need.
3. Connect you with the best services for you. Your treatment and support may be organised through a range of available services in the community or directly through the Head to Health mental health hubs. Services include video and phone supported mental health and assessment, as well as COVID-safe face-to-face support where recommended.

There is no cost for using the Medicare Mental Health central 1800 595 212 intake, advice and referral service, and if you are referred to a Medicare Mental Health hub there is no cost for services there either. However, not everyone who contacts us will be suitable for treatment at a Medicare Mental Health hub. If we believe you will benefit from support from another provider, where possible, we will ensure this is also a free or low-cost service if you let us know that you have financial concerns.
